Between two rivers that spring into the Himalayas, the Indus and the Jhelum, the salt is extracted via mining and transported to a small village near Varanasi in Northern India.
There the large chunks of salt are washed with spring water and put in the sun to dry. Then it is pulverized, screened and packed. Himalayan salt is rich in trace elements and minerals. The silicon content is high which is good for the bone structure.

The ion and electrolyte content supports the acid-base balance, the regeneration of the cells and the nervous system. The minerals also give the separate color to the salt.
